YA Movie/TV News #2

Well, I was thinking this would be a monthly thing, but with so much happening right now, I have more news to share!:)

L.J. Smith's The Vampire Diaries is coming to TV thanks to the CW. I haven't read this series, but with all the vampire buzz right now, I think this could be a big show next season. Persnickety Snark has photos of the confirmed cast so far.

The gods have arrived! Here's the latest Percy Jackson casting info:

Pierce Brosnan as Chiron
Uma Thurman as Medusa
Melina Kanakaredes as Athena-I love this one-I think she's perfect!
Kevin McKidd as Poseidon
Sean Bean as Zeus

More gods to come, but I'm liking this list so far!

The Wolf Pack (minus Leah-I don't know where Leah is yet) has been cast for New Moon. You can find the list on Stephenie Meyer's site. I think it's cool they were able to cast some unknown actors, but I'm wondering why they didn't just keep the same guys from the first movie-didn't we see a couple of them in Twilight or am I totally making that up?

Have you seen this? I'm so excited!!:)

  1. Oh, thanks for the update! They did have a couple other people in Twilight, you're right...they were with Jacob at La Push.

  2. Loads going on, thanks for the update

  3. Interesting selections for the Greek gods and goddesses - I wonder if they'll just look like themselves or if there'll be lots of makeup and whatnots.

  4. Am I going to have to buy a TV so I can watch The Vampire Diaries?! Oh boy!

  5. Lauren-thanks, I knew I wasn't making that up!

Storyheart-I'm sure there will be even more to come.

Epic Rat-I know, I think Uma Thurman is too pretty to play Medusa.

Cupcakewitch-haha-you have to get a TV now!:)

  6. O! I loved Where the Wild Things Are when I was a kid. I can hear my inner child now..."We must go see this movie! Please? Please?"

You are not crazy. We did see some of the pack in Twilight. Huh...I wonder why they recasted every member.

I don't know if I am too excited about a Vampire Diaries TV series. Just sounds a little dumb to me. I will have to wait and see.

  7. I may just have to check out the Vampire Diaries series, just for the heck of it. I loved the original books and was so-so on the new one. Will be interested to see how it translates to TV...

  8. Glad to see that Kevin McKidd is not straying too far from his Greco/Roman roots. Rome and all.

  9. Leah isn't going to be in New Moon. Melissa Rosenberg (the screenwriter) said that when all of the Vanessa Hudgens rumors were going around.

Dear Books: Please Update Your Libraries

There is nothing worse than coming across a book you are really enjoying only to be pulled out of it because of some outdated and incorrect library reference. I know that authors and illustrators will not always get everything 100% accurate, but I when I read books that show a very dated stereotype, or something that is just so incorrect, I always wonder why. I feel like authors and illustrators should know better! And it's not just older books-it happens in new books too! I recently read A Big Surprise for Little Card by Charise Mericle Harper and illustrated by Anna Raff.  I absolutely loved this book! It's a creative look at libraries through the eyes of a library card. It's perfect for my outreach visits and storytimes about the library and promoting what value there is in a library card. Anna Raff gets major points for illustrating a very cool and hip librarian as well! But the librarian tells card to shush and is a bit annoyed when he shows up. And then l
