YA Movie News

Wow-there's a lot going on this week!!

First off, film rights to Carrie Ryan's The Forest of Hands and Teeth have been sold and rumor has it the film's script is already in development and they're working on this project for an A-list starlet. Congrats to Carrie! I'll let you know when I find out more.

Paramount has bought the rights to Swim the Fly by Don Calame. I've read some great reviews on this book around the blogging world including KD's Library, Steph Su Reads, and Addicted to Books. Sounds like it could be a great teen flick! Congrats Don-this is awesome news especially since the book was just recently released!

And in Percy Jackson news, two more cast members have been added. Rosario Dawson will be playing Persephone and Steve Coogan will be Hades. Also, check out the Percy Jackson IMDB page for more info on the cast including Aphrodite, Demeter and Luke. I really can't wait for this movie!!

And last, I gotta geek out for a moment and let you all know I went and saw Star Trek last night and it was fantastic! Even if you're not a Trek fan (my hubby is not an original series fan at all) you can still enjoy it. I had major doubts about a film that would prequel an already set canon, but the writers did an excellent job and I was able to forgive them for little things (mostly) because they wrote a way around it. Even a friend of mine who is big into all things original and does not like anything done without Gene Roddenberry loved it! The cast was amazing and the movie stayed true to the feel of the original series without being cheesy. If you get a chance this weekend, go see this movie!!

  1. Yay!! I;m so excited for the Forest of Hands and Teeth movie. When I was reading it was I hoping for a movie.

I saw Star Trek last night, too and loved it. I was worried, but they did a great job. Not nearly enough Simon Pegg though.

  2. Wow, yay! Swim the Fly is maybe being made into a movie???!? That's fantastic news. It will make a hilarious movie, provided they don't turn it into Superbad-stupid. This is exciting, exciting, exciting. Thanks for sharing!

  3. whoa awesome! thanks for all the info!! :)

I'm seeing star trek later today can't wait! :)

  4. OMG It sure didnt take long for the Forest of Hands and Teeth to get a movie deal! Yikes. Didn't it just come out? I still have to read it. Its on the TBR pile.

  5. Wow! I'm curious to see who they will cast as Mary. Can't wait to see it.

  6. Thanks for posting--I love hearing the latest news! And how cool about Carrie's book. I totally want to know which A list starlet'll be playing Mary! (Not Miley Cyrus, please not Miley Cyrus......PRAY, people, PRAY!)

  7. I am so excited. TFOHAT is amazing!

  8. Just watched Star Trek too and really enjoyed it.

Not sure I'd see the movie of Forest of Hands and Teeth. I didn't really like the book all that much, so the movie seems like a waste (for me, anyway).

I love hearing from other readers! Share your thoughts and chime in!
