YA Movie News

Not a lot to post about this week, but as always I'm excited about the news that did appear.

Did you read
The Borrowers by Mary Norton as a kid? It was a series my mom and I shared before bed and I loved it. Japan's Studio Ghibli is adapting the book to film and setting it in modern day Japan. The film won't be directed by Miyazaki, but it being directed by Hiromasa Yonebayashi and he worked on Spirited Away and Howl's Moving Castle. The movie is set for a summer release Japan as Karigurashi no Arrietty (or Borrowing Arrietty) and I'm crossing my fingers it makes it's way over to the U.S.

The new Alice in Wonderland trailer appeared this week. I'm getting very excited about this film and I think I'll really enjoy it-which is saying something, because I'm not really a fan of
Alice in Wonderland!

  1. I'm not a big fan of Alice in Wonderland either but I'm willing to give it a chance because I love Johnny Depp and Anne Hathaway. The Disney cartoon of Alice is one of my least favorite movies ever, of all time.

  2. Sarah-mine too. Alice always creeped me out and the Disney cartoon is just so weird! But this one actually looks fun.

  3. Alice in Wonderland looks really good! I'm with you on not really being a fan of it. I've seen the animated one once, and I didn't like it at all (I also didn't like Alice on SyFy). But this new movie looks awesome!

  4. Wow, I'm excited about the Studio Ghibli project. That is going to be great.

And I'm looking forward to the Alice movie though it is going to be weird.

  5. When I heard about Studio Ghibli adapting The Borrowers, I was like, WHAT?! But it was in a good way. I'm so excited! :)

  6. I loved the Borrowers series as a kid. Don't think I could watch the movie, though (remember in the mid-ninties there was an attempt at a Borrowers movie that was so far off it should have been called something else entirely??). Ever since my second-grade disappointment in THE SECRET OF NIMH, I have a hard time with the adaptations of childhood favorites.

  7. I loved the Borrowers so I'm glad to see that. The trailer is awesome! Can't wait.

I love hearing from other readers! Share your thoughts and chime in!
