YA Movie News-Part Two

More movie news to report today!

First, the icky news: the Breaking Dawn split will happen. The book will be two (and I'm predicting very boring) movies. I think this is very much a money making move and there was no thought put into the fact that the book really can't support two movies. Hollywood makes me mad.

But then there's good news that makes me happy again! A screenwriter for Shiver has been hired! Nick Pustay has been hired to pen the script for the movie version, although I haven't seen anything he's written before, so I can't really say much other than I'm excited. Who would you cast as Sam and Grace? Saoirse Ronan is my Grace pick, I'll have to think about who I would like as Sam.

  1. I can definitely see Saoirse Ronan as Grace - she's pretty in a thoughtful way. Not overpowering.

And about the Breaking Dawn news... you know it's bad when the smaller proportion of Twilight fans who actually liked Breaking Dawn think it's ridiculous to split that movie in two.

  2. OMG that kind of horrifies me, there's barely enough in there for 1 movie! 2? Really? This is not Harry Potter. The single movies are already boring...I mean I watch them, but they do drag...oy.

Also SQUEEE on the Shiver writer! That one has to be good--fingers crossed--

  3. Hollywood is always on a quest to milk more money out of the fans. Lame.

  4. I'm so glad to know two Breaking Dawn movies doesn't only infuriate me! It's good to know other people think it's a crazy idea.

  5. Ooh, I love Saoirse Ronan--she was great in Atonement and Lovely Bones! The Shiver movie sounds awesome...Breaking Dawn, not so much.

  6. I wouldn't watch Breaking Dawn either way, but it does sound stupid to divide them in two.

  7. Lenore-I don't really want to watch it either and now that it's two movies, I won't go see it at all. I don't want to sit through the boringness. New Moon was long and dull enough!

  8. I'm glad I'm not the only one who feels this way about Breaking Dawn...

  9. This Breaking Dawn news caused a massive eye roll over here. I hate the split b/c, 1.) I didn't think the book had enough of a plot to pack into one movie, let alone two. I skimmed so much of that one. I thought it was extremely boring. and 2.) I don't think it's a dramatic ending to a series (like Harry Potter) that deserves two films to wrap it all up. Very annoying. I can't imagine sitting through the end of that one without falling alseep.

I'm still up in the air about Shiver. I loved, loved, loved the writing but, in the end, I didn't love the story the way some people do. By the time the series wraps, I might be singing a very different tune though :) I'm excited to see how that series plays out for sure.
