YA Movie News

According to Variety Warner Brothers has picked up the movie rights for Ally Carter's new release, Heist Society. Shauna Cross (Whip It screenwriter and author of Derby Girl if the novel it was based on) is attached to write, which I think is great, since I loved Whip It! But what really annoys me, is the studio plans for the characters to age up into their 20's!! I think we need to start a campaign to get the studio to keep this one with YA characters.

Also, thanks to the same article, I discovered that Ms. Cross has also penned the script for the movie adaptation of If I Stay.

Who else will be heading to movie theaters this weekend to see Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Lightning Thief? I know it will be different frome the books, but I still can't wait to see it! We'll be seeing it with some friends who haven't read the books (my husband and I have) so it'll be interesting to hear their feedback.

With the success of Sherlock Holmes, movie studios are looking for more adaptations. Variety reports that The Three Musketeers is the next classic to get an update to appeal to young audiences. I'm interested to see where this goes-it could be fun!

And it's not YA, but so many of my co-workers are excited about this, I thought I had to share. Katherine Heigl has signed on for a movie adaptation of Janet Evanovich's One for the Money. This movie has been in development forever, so this new interest is putting the movie on fast track. I have yet to read this series, but so many of my co-workers love it, so I'll need to read it soon!

  1. You will read the Evanovich series and you will realize immediately that Katherine Heigl is not the right match to play the mc Stephanie Plum. I am very annoyed by this casting choice!!

Does it feel like every YA book is suddenly being optioned for a movie, or is it just me? 0_o

  2. Heigl is not right for Stephanie Plum at all. This casting news really bugs me.

  3. That's so funny you guys don't like the Katherine Heigl casting, my co-workers were saying they thought it was ok. I guess I need to read the books and decide!:)

  4. Thanks for the news! I'm not absolutely thrilled by Heigl, but I think she'll be fine and I'm just happy this series will be a movie, finally! Love Stephanie Plum!

  5. My coworkers and patrons were disappointed about Heigel as well. By the way, the Slushbusters nominated you for a Sunshine Award! :)

  6. Going to see Percy tonight after work, YAY!

I love Evanovich's "Plum" series, but agree that Katherine Heigl does not at all match what I would have wanted. Oh well, I'm still excited for the movie!

  7. The Heist Society characters should definitely stay as teens! I hate when they change huge things in movie adaptations (don't get me started on The Dark Is Rising!)

I think Katherine Heigl is completely the wrong choice for Stephanie too. I'm wondering who they'll cast as Joe and Ranger now.

  8. OMG! Totally can't even begin to conceptualize who should be Ranger...oh no! That could make it or break it for me (I LOVE HIM!)

  9. Well, if Katherine Heigl is Stephanie they might just cast any random ol' men for Joe and Ranger.. maybe you know, Jamie Foxx and Toby Maguire. =P

Read the books! They are hilarious and fun!

  10. Cat, it is not you. Or else we see something no one else does because it seems that YA novels are movies before they are even released. Oh's like the whole "comic/superhero adaptation" thing. If it makes money, they'll over do it.

"If I Stay" as a movie...for some reason I saw this coming. A perfect tear jerker. I'd be up to seeing it though because I really enjoyed the audio book. (I've started listening to audio books again during my commute).

Good to know about the Stephanie Plum books...

    Thanks for posting!

  11. Okay, so I saw "Percy" and loved it. Absolutely loved it! I will be very interested to see what someone else who has read the books thinks...

I love hearing from other readers! Share your thoughts and chime in!
