YA Movie News

-Remember that movie version of If I Stay that's in the works? EW reports that Dakota Fanning is in talks to star in the movie version of If I Stay. The director has been changed as well-Catherine Hardwicke was orignally attached to direct, but now Heitor Dhalia is set to direct. Dakota Fanning as Mia is a casting I could really get behind and I think she'd be perfect!

-Mr. Popper's Penguins starring Jim Carrey is set to release August 12, 2011. They've changed a lot of the script and turned it into a typical slapstick comedy for kids, so sadly, don't expect it to be too much like the book. Thanks to
Cynopsis Kids for the news.

-A new tv show starring The Hulk is being developed for ABC. Maybe my Incredible Hulk comics will finally start to see circulation again? He seems to be a forgotton superhero on my library shelves. Thanks to
Cynopsis Kids for the news.

-Judy Blume has written a movie script for her novel Tiger Eyes with her son Lawrence who plans to direct the film. None of Ms. Blume's novels have hit the big screen, although she has had TV adaptations made. (I LOVED the Fudge TV series as a kid!) Thanks to
Shelf Awareness for the news.

-Walden Media, who is known for the children's books movie adaptations, has the rights to The Best Christmas Pagent Ever by Barbara Park. A TV movie was made in the 80's. Thanks to
Cynopsis Kids for the news.

-Universal Pictures has picked up the rights to the YA series Sweep by Cate Tiernan. Alloy and Vince Vaughn's Wild West Productions are producing and Robert Nelson Jacobs is attached to write the script (Jaobs adapated Chocolat for the big screen.) The series is about Morgan, who discovers she is a witch. This series is still incredibly popular and checks out all the time at my library, so I hope this movie gets made-my teens would go crazy over it! Thanks to
Cynopsis Kids for the news.

-The Hobbit finally has a green light and Martin Freeman has been cast as Bilbo Baggins. Thanks to
EW for the news.

  2. I think Dakota Fanning is a great choice for If I Stay. She's one of the few mega child stars that I think could do justice to the role. I'm disappointed that it's not Catherine Hardwicke though. I like her movies, even Twilight 1, with all its flaws.

  3. I'm psyched for Mr. Popper's penguins- that was one of my favorites as a kid, and maybe even if the movie isn't the same it'll get kids to pick it up :)

  5. Omg, I watched that Fudge series too- only because I had read the books and loved those. I honestly don't remember if I liked it.

AND The Best Christmas Pageant Ever is one of the first books I remember laughing outloud to when I was a kid. I still remember the kids trying to crush each other with the garage door. Can't wait to see what they do with this movie.

  6. I think Dakota Fanning is an excellent choice as well. She's a great actress and that is truly needed for such a dramatic role.
