YA Movie News

-The Ender's Game movie is gaining speed. Hugo star Asa Butterfield will have the title role and it looks like True Grit star Hailee Steinfeld will be joining him. The movie is set to release in 2013. Thanks to Hollywood Reporter for the news!

-How did I miss the news about a Les Miserables musical movie? So far the film has Russel Crowe, Anne Hathaway, and Hugh Jackman in the cast and rumor is Scarlett Johansson, Taylor Swift, Evan Rachel Wood, and Lea Michele are all in the running for Eponine. I think my pick would be Lea Michele, but I'm really not a big fan of this list. Who would you pick? Thanks to NY Post for the news.

-Matt Phelan's graphic novel, The Storm in the Barn,  has been optioned for a live action feature film. The film has Marti Noxon, who wrote and produced for Buffy and Mad Men producing and David Goodman, who has worked on Fringe and Angel is writing the script. I like those kind of connections!! Thanks to Betsy Bird for the news.

-Pretty Little Liars and The Lying Game are coming back January 2! ABC family will be airing marathons of the shows before the new season starts during the day, so you can catch up!

I am so excited for Downton Abbey Season 2, especially after this preview! Maybe we should have a blogger watch/recap/discuss after each episode? Who's with me?

  1. Eponine is my favorite character in Les Mis, I really hope it is not Taylor Swift. I actually think Scarlett Johannson is a good singer so I would mind her. I am not a fan of Glee but can't deny that Mia is the talent of the show. But I am not sold on her acting.
Did you see Daughter of Smoke and Bone by Laini Taylor is in the works of being bought right now?

  2. I am not a huge fan of the Les Mis casting at all - I do like Geoffrey Rush and I think Helen Bonham Carter will do good too, they both are riots, but other than that Im not too crazy. I especially am not crazy about the people for Eponine.

Also, it's good to know that I have at least another year to FINALLY read Ender's Game. I know, I know....

  5. Connie-I really hope it's not Taylor Swift either. The others would be OK. And I'll look up the news about Daughter!

Erica-I like most of the cast (I like Hugh Jackman a lot anyway) so I'm hoping they get the rest of it right!

    Siriana-I know-me too! I can't wait!!

    RockyRiverTeenLibrarian-Shh..I haven't read it yet either! :)

  7. I'm keyboard smashing over here!!!!! A Les Mis musical movie?!?! SQUEE!!!!

Erica casted it spot on--Helena Bonham Carter needs to be Madame Thenardier and, of course, her leading man Johnny Depp as the Master of the House!

I think Hugh Jackman will be a good Valjean, and Anne Hathaway should be a decent Cosette if she can hit those notes. Maybe Josh Groban as Marius and I think Tim Curry could bring an amazing take on Javier. Ooh, what about Matt Bomer as Enjolras?

Not sure Lea Michelle is a good choice. I like her on Glee (even if I want to punch Rachel in the face sometimes), but I don't think Lea has the stage presence for such a strong yet damage character as Eponnine.

But regardless, I WILL SEE THIS MOVIE!!! Multiple times, probably!!!!

    Smiles!

  8. OMG! Helena Bonham Carter as Madame Thenardier?!?! Love, love, love. Only...it's too bad I'll have to boycott when/if they cast Taylor Swift as Eponine. Dear god, they need to just cast Lea Michele and be done with it.

Downton Abbey online discussion club? I'm in!

  9. I'm very excited about the Les Mis movie! I will hate it if they cast Taylor Swift though!

  10. Those Eponine choices are pretty sad. If the casting for the Les Mis movie gets fouled up, stick with the 25th Anniversary Concert featuring Alfie Boe.

    Downton Abbey Season 2 Rocks!
