YA Movie News

So who saw The Hunger Games?? I've already seen it twice! I really thought they did a good job and it was a great adaptation of the book. The things I missed were seeing more struggle from Katniss with her feelings for Peeta and more admission that she was playing the game, the gift from District 11 in the arena to Katniss and more working for sponsors from Katniss. I think they could have played up the reality TV aspect with the sponsors and the supposed love story. I also thought the end was somewhat rushed. Overall though I thought it was great and I adored Peeta and thought Katniss was great!

Enough Hunger Games talk! Here's what's happening in YA movie news:

-Remember that Percy Jackson & The Olympains: Sea of Monsters movie in the works? First they cast Nathan Fillion as Hermes nd now they've added Anthony Stewart Head, who is taking over the role of Chiron. I wasn't thrilled with the first Percy movie, so why does the sequel keep making casting decisions that pull me in?? Not fair at all!!

-Deadline has the first photo from The CW's The Carrie Diaries. What do you think?

-Indiewire has a list of YA books that could be the next big thing in Hollywood and their production status. It's a pretty cool list and I hope those movies that are in development get made! I love seeing books hit the big screen!!

-Mirror, Mirror opens this weekend. I think this movie looks like it could be cute, but I'm not sure if I'll see it in theaters. Anyone else?

-Cartoon Network has a TV series based on How To Train Your Dragon coming this Fall. I know this will be popular with my tween readers, who loved the movie and the books! Thanks to Cynopsis Kids for the news!

And this week's trailer is for the Rise of the Guardians based on Willam Joyce's books.

  1. I'm glad you enjoyed the Hunger Games movie-I felt the same way: they did a good job of adapting it, but certain things could have been improved. Nevertheless, I got sucked into the story and I thought the movie was visually stunning, overall.

I plan to see Mirror, Mirror tonight-it looks like a movie that I will watch just so I can swoon over the dresses, but that's ok with me!

  2. I am planning to see Hunger Games for a second time tonight..... YEAH!!!
I will pass on Mirror Mirror at the theater, it looks a little cheesy.

  3. I was a little disappointed in the mockingjay story being changed as well. Also, it was hard for viewers to understand Katniss's anxiety over leaving Prim with her mother. But overall it was a good adaptation.

I did read that Ted Nugent (old rock musician and NRA advocate as well as avid bow hunter) praised Jennifer Lawrence for her use of the bow and arrows in the movie.

I love hearing from other readers! Share your thoughts and chime in!
