Judge a Book By Its Cover: Baby GreenBean Edition

Guys, blogging with a baby is hard. Really hard . I have so many blog posts written in my head that I just need to sit down and actually take the time to write out, which is so much easier said than done. I don't know what it is about blogging that just seems to take up so much more energy, but man, it drains me.  But becoming a mom hasn't changed my reading. I still read-A LOT. I listen to books and I read books and there are books all over my house, probably more than usual if you count the amount of board books all over the floor at any given moment. Reading isn't hard, it's just finding the time to write the reviews. Sigh. I'll get there. The fun thing is I have a great reading buddy. Baby GreenBean loves to read which makes this librarian mama very happy. But what really interests me is his fascination and interest in certain books. He judges my books by their covers on a regular basis and I find it so interesting what books he's drawn to. I've...

Judge a Book By Its Cover: Hardcover to Paperback

I love looking at book covers. Browsing the shelves looking at book covers is one of my favorite things-and I love when I notice a cover change from hardcover to paperback. Some I like for the better and some for the worse. What do you think of these recent changes? I love the covers for the His Fair Assassin Series. They have tough, kickbutt girls on the cover who just look awesome! I love this hardcover for Dark Triumph by Robin LaFevers: But I'm not so sold on the paperback cover. I still like it, but the girl just looks less tough to me.  Midwinterblood by Marcus Sedgwick Hardcover Paperback:  This is a cover change I really like. The hardcover is OK, but it looks a bit weird and bland to me where I think the paperback has a more romantic and mysterious feel to it.  A Soldier's Secret by Marissa Moss Hardcover:  Paperback: Nonfiction doesn't always get a cover change, but I love this one! The new cover te...

Judge a Book By Its Cover: Hardcover to Paperback

This ALA I was able to take two teens with me-one was my cousin and the other a good family friend. Both girls are avid readers (and hopefully future librarians!) and they were in awe of getting to visit ALA and meet authors and have publishers tell them about new books. Throughout our ALA visit, we had many discussions on book covers and how we judge books by their covers. Both girls said they judge covers first, but will still read what the book is about. But it's the cover that grabs their attention and makes them want to know more in the first place. It's something we never grow out of-I still judge books by their cover! Here are some recent cover changes that I came across that I thought would be fun to judge:   The Book of Blood and Shadow by Robin Wasserman Hardcover: Paperback: I feel like this cover change is to make the book appeal to an adult audience. It reminds me of the mysteries my mom reads, where the hardcover looks more teen to me. ...

Simone Elkeles Wild Cards Cover Reveal Tour

I am a huge fan of Simone Elkeles, so I can't wait for her new series Wild Cards which is coming out this October. I'm even more excited to share another piece of the cover-if you're a reader of Simone Elkeles, you know her books are not only awesome, but her covers are amazing-and I don't think Wild Cards will disappoint! The full cover will be revealed on Friday on the Bloomsbury Teen Facebook page , but here's a sneak peak at the cover: About Wild Cards :   After getting kicked out of boarding school, bad boy Derek Fitzpatrick has no choice but to live with his ditzy stepmother while his military dad is deployed. Things quickly go from bad to worse when he finds out she plans to move them back to her childhood home in Illinois. Derek's counting the days before he can be on his own, and the last thing he needs is to get involved with someone else's family drama. Ashtyn Parker knows one thing for certain--people you care about leave without a backward...

Judge a Book By It's Cover: Hardcover to Paperback

I love looking at book covers, especially when they change from hardcover to paperback. I think the cover evolution and marketing directions books take is interesting! Here are some recent changes I've seen: Al Capone Does My Shirts by Gennifer Choldenko Hardcover -Simple, yet it gets the story across-I like it Paperback: -This one is much more simple, but it works and I really like it. I also think it adds an element of humor the first cover is missing. Little Women and Me  by Lauren Baratz-Logsted Hardcover: -I don't know what I think of this cover. I like how she's coming through the book and entering the story, which gets the plot across, but it just looks a bit odd at the same time-not sure why. Paperback:  -I really like the look of this cover, but at the same time it feels a bit historical. Smart Girls Get What They Want by Sarah Strohmeyer Hardcover: -It's simple, but I like it. I also like how...

Judge A Book By It's Cover: Hardcover to Paperback

Sometimes paperback covers can be for the better and sometimes they can be for the worse. Here are some  recent cover changes I've seen: First up, Code Name Verity , a book that is near and dear to my heart. That shiny sticker looks so pretty, doesn't it? I like this cover, but the paperback is really growing on me: I'll admit at first I hated it, but the more I look at it the more I like it. There's just something so beautiful about this cover.  Here's another one I really like. The hardcover for The Catastrophic History of You and Me makes sense with the book, but I just don't like the way it looks as a whole and I'm not sure why. I think it's the fact that I don't like the dress. But I really like this paperback cover, even if it does look a bit like other covers. It's just simple and beautiful   Here's one I really dislike. I love the hardcover for Keeping the Castle : But the paperback loo...
