Kelly's Favorite Printz Honors: Guest Post by Kelly Jensen, Stacked

Hello to the lovely readers of Sarah’s blog! My name is Kelly Jensen, and I’m a blogger at Stacked , as well as Book Riot , and I’m running on the ballot for the 2016 Printz Committee . Sarah was generous enough to let me talk a little bit about some of my favorite Printz titles in her space today. But rather than talk about my favorite winners, I thought it’d be fun to talk about some of my favorite honor titles. So here are three awesome Printz honor titles that if you haven’t checked out, you should. Speak by Laurie Halse Anderson I was 13 when Laurie Halse Anderson’s Speak came out. I don’t think I read it when I was 13, but I know I picked it up and read it when the library developed its first teen-only section and this was one of the books I found in it. I remember finding Melinda’s story and her voice haunting and chilling in equal measure. It’s impressive that this was Anderson’s first novel. I think that the Printz committee’s decision to award it an honor ...

Guest Post: Gail Gauthier

Please welcome author Gail Gauthier to GreenBeanTeenQueen! Gail has written several books for tweens and teens and recently released her book Saving the Planet & Stuff as an ebook.  Add to Goodreads I began my reading life in one-room schoolhouses that could barely be said to have their own libraries. These days, I can sometimes be found reading on a Kindle, which means I can order library eBooks without actually having to go into a library. Seems like a big jump, doesn’t it? I want to make clear that I didn’t spend my early years in one-room schoolhouses because I am so very, very old. No, I spent most of my growing up years in Sudbury , Vermont , a town too small, at that time, to afford what even then would have been considered a “traditional” elementary school. Younger students attended Hill School, which had a cupboard filled with dark old volumes of early twentieth century children’s books. Burr Pond, for the older kids, had a bookcase filled with o...

Guest Post from GreenBeanSexyMan: Songs of the Earth by Elspeth Cooper

Back in December I got Mr. GreenBeanSexyMan a book to review for me. He has finally finished the book and so here is his review. You can also check out his twitter: @Andydoesitagain if you want to see what else he is up to when he is not doing guest posts for me. Rating: 3.5/5 Stars Genre: Fantasy Release Date: October 6, 2009 Publisher: Tor Add to Goodreads Hello everyone! Sorry it has been so long since my last review. When GreenBeanTeenQueen brought this book to my attention, I told her that I would be happy to review it for her blog. However, I must confess that I procrastinated picking it up and then took my time leafing through the first few chapters. As it turns out, I am just a bit shy when it comes to new books, but after I got into the story I was kicking myself for taking so long to get into it. I just finished it yesterday so here are my thoughts. About the book: The story focuses primarily on an excommunicated knight named Gair as he struggles to underst...

Mr. GreenBeanSexyMan has a goal to read more YA-yay! So here he his with his review of the first YA he read this year! You can also check out his blog: http://writingmyselfcrazy.blogspot.com/ if you want to see what else he is up to when he is not doing guest posts for me. Rating: 3.5/5 Stars Genre: Fantasy Release Date: October 6, 2009 Publisher: Disney-Hyperion Add to Goodreads Well, I am back with another review. This book has been on my TBR pile for quite a while but I could never quite bring myself to dive into it. Finally, after months of listening to the recommendations of GreenBeanTeenQueen and her library teens that I read it, I finally gave in and picked it back up. I just finished it yesterday so here are my thoughts. About the book : The story focuses on two main characters, the headstrong princess Raisa and a teenage former thief and gang leader named Han. Set in an area of the Seven Realms called The Fells and in its capitol Fellsmarch, Han must learn how to provide for ...

Tween Tuesday

Tween Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted here at GreenBeanTeenQueen to highlight great reads for tweens. Join the fun and leave the link to your Tween Tuesday post below. Today I have a special guest post from Margo from The Fourth Musketeer . (Go visit her blog-she has great historical fiction reviews and she rocks!!) Margo was lucky enough to attend a show called Artemis Rocks featuring Artemis Fowl author Eoin Colfer interviewing his character Artemis and I was thrilled when she said she'd write up a post about the event! With the release of the newest adventure of teen criminal mastermind Artemis Fowl, The Atlantis Complex (Disney Hyperion,2010), Irish author Eoin Colfer has taken Artemis himself--in his fir st public appearances--on the road in a promotional tour. I was lucky enough to catch their show, Artemis Rocks , in Pasadena, California, along with several hundred other Artemis fans. While Artemis Fowl has never reached the stratospheric popularity of the Twilight or ...

Guest Post: Fictional Girl's who Kick Butt

Today I have a special guest blogger-my friend and co-worker Abby! Abby is an aspiring YA author and she recently said she was in a writing slump. So what better way than to get her back to writing than writing a guest post about her favorite kick-butt female characters! I can't wait until we all see Abby's writing in a bookstore someday! Hey all you GreenBean fans out there! I am very honored to be guest-posting on Sarah’s blog today. Or is it guest-blogging? I don’t have a blog (yet) so I am not very in on the blogosphere lingo just yet. But I love blogs, and I keep up with tons of them, so you’d think I would know all about it. Anyway, my name is Abby and I work with Sarah at the library. Incidentally, her husband, Mr. GreenBeanSexyMan, is my writing Critique Partner. When I became Mr. GreenBeanSexyMan’s Critique Partner, I was excited for several reasons. 1. He is writing a fantasy novel (and reads lots of YA too), and I am writing a YA fantasy novel so I can actually get s...

The Bartimaeus Trilogy by Jonathan Stroud

Today I have a special guest-my husband, Mr. GreenBeanSexyMan. I told him how I needed some more "guy reads" featured on my blog and since he is a guy and all, who better than to recommend a great guy read? If you like his post, I'll ask him to come back and give more suggestions-he reads a lot of fantasy and the more I can convince him to read MG or YA the better! Rating: 5/5 Stars Genre: Fantasy Release Date: various-all three are available now Publisher: Disney-Hyperion Purchase from Indiebound.org Add to Goodreads I am a picky reader and I have wanted to pick up a new series for quite awhile now. I have been looking to fill that void left by Harry Potter, Percy Jackson, and others, but nothing has been holding my attention lately. Then by chance I saw the first book of the Bartimaeus Trilogy on audio book on a display and picked it up. I was immediately swept away by the bold storytelling. It also helped the Simon Jones narrated the audio books and his performance wou...
