2013 YA & Children's Books to Movies

Here's a list of all the great books to movies coming out in 2013!! I'm stretching the list a bit to include comics (anyone else notice a rise in the interest in superheroes at their library each time a new superhero movie comes out? I notice this a lot, especially in the preschool and tween demographic) and some classics. I'll try to update as other release dates are added. January Struck by Lightning -OK, so this one was a movie first, and then a book, but still I'm counting it!-novel inspired by the movie February Beautiful Creatures - based on the novel by Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl March Oz: The Great and Powerful - loosely inspired by the Oz Series by L. Frank Baum The Host -based on the novel by Stephenie Meyer April May Iron Man 3 -inspired by the Iron Man comics The Great Gatsby -based on the novel F. Scott Fitzgerald (not technically YA, but read in many high school English classes) Epic -loosely inspired by the picture bo...

An Unexpected Partnership?

I'm all about cross-promotion, but this one just seems oddly funny to me. Denny's is promoting the upcoming The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey with a new Hobbit themed menu. Customers can order things like Gandalf Gobble Melt and Shire Sausage and Frodo's Pot Roast Skillet. They can also receive collectible cards. I guess it makes some sense-Hobbits do like to eat throughout the day and Denny's is open 24 hours. It's just not the first thing I would think of when it comes to promoting The Hobbit . So what do you think? Creative cross-promotion or not?

Beautiful Creatures Movie Trailer!!

How good does this look???

Catching Fire Cast-Finnick Finally!

We finally have a Finnick for Catching Fire! I don't know about you, but this was the casting news I was eagerly waiting for! Sam Claflin has been cast as Finnick! I think he will be awesome, don't you? The Hollywood Reporter has a very handy Catching Fire casting guide to keep you updated . And The Hunger Games Movie Facebook page has a very cool cast photo collage so you can see who everyone is.

Hunger Games Fashion Show

In Style has a gallery of sketches from various fashion designers taking on Katniss's famous fire dress. I'm not a huge fan of to many-Christian Siriano's is pretty cool and I think it captures the original. And this one by Rachel Roy is an outfit I want to own because I'm crazy like that! I think I've been watching too much Project Runway because I was totally critiquing them like Heidi! Thanks to Leila for the link!

The Hunger Games Trailer

OK, I know you've probably seen this everywhere else today, but I wanted to make sure my previous posts for today got some love before I posted this one. All I can say is WOW! I am even more excited for the movie now and I think it's going to be amazing. It looks like they are staying true to the book and I love the casting! What do you think?

What Happens When My Book Hits Hollywood? Guest Post by Kathleen Churchyard

Author Kathleen Churchyard, author of the middle grade novel, Bye for Now, has a lot of Hollywood experience! So when she came up with the idea for a guest post about how books get made into movies, I knew she had to write it! You know I love my book to movie adaptations-I post weekly movie news here on the blog. So if you've ever wondered what exactly is involved in a book to movie, you'll want to check out Kathleen's post! What happens when my book hits Hollywood? Guest Post by Kathleen Churchyard Despite 16 years working as an executive in LA, there’s no job I ever held that’s as conversation-sparking as my very first secretarial job in the West Coast Book Department of William Morris and subsequently ICM. I get asked the above question all the time, so today’s blog is my answer to all. My boss was a co-agent. That meant she didn’t sign many author clients of her own. Predominantly, she was responsible for selling the film and television rights to every book, of e...

The Hunger Games Capitol Website-What Could It Be?

So if you watched the teaser of The Hunger Games movie, you may have noticed an interesting hashtag in the corner of the screen at the end that said "#whatsmydistrict" Well, of course I was intrigued. So checking it out on Twitter brought me to this Capitol website . Not much so far, but I believe it's a picture of the Capitol seal. And if you start to follow The Capitol PN on Twitter, you'll see some interesting (and even a bit creepy!) tweets! Asking everyone to report to the Capitol for the games? Scary but also cool! So what do you think is in store? Will you sign up? And what could the website be?

Hunger Games at the VMAs

Hey Hunger Games Fans! If you can't wait to see a preview of the Hunger Games movie , you're in luck. MTV will be debuting a first look at the film during the VMA awards, Sunday, August 28. So set your DVRs! If you miss it, don't worry-MTV will be adding the clip online so you can watch it over and over! I can't wait!! Who else will be tuning in?

First Look at Peeta and Gale

What do you think everyone? I think they look pretty good-although I think Gale should be a bit more built. And Peeta's such a cutie!:)

President Snow Cast!

It's official. Donald Sutherland has been cast as President Snow in The Hunger Games Movie. Mr. GreenBeanSexyMan and I were eagerly awaiting this casting, and we both think this is pretty much perfect (well, Mr. GreenBeanSexyMan says perfect as an actor, but he pictured Snow to look a bit different). I'm very excited about the whole cast and I can't wait for the movie! What do you think?

Stanley Tucci in The Hunger Games

Announced today, Stanley Tucci will play Ceasar Flickerman, host of The Hunger Games, in The Hunger Games movie . I love this casting and think he's going to be great! What do you think?

New Hunger Games Casting Rumor

Rumor is that Woody Harrelson, Stanley Tucci and Lenny Kravitz have been offered roles in The Hunger Games . Woody Harrelson would play Seneca Crane but no word on the other two roles. My guess is that Stanley Tucci would be Cinna (which I think would be great!!) but maybe he's set for President Snow? And I'm not sure what role Lenny Kravitz could be filling-maybe he'll end up being Cinna? What are your thoughts/guesses?

Haymitch Rumors?

Rumors are circulating about John C. Reilly playing Haymitch in The Hunger Games movie . Although he was never anyone whose name I heard come up, I really like this pick and I think he would be great! I hope these rumors come true!! What do you think? In other Hunger Games news, Paula Malcomson has been cast as Mrs. Everdeen . I think she looks like Jennifer Lawrence and I love when fake families in movies look like real families! (Maybe that's weird, but it's kind of a big deal to me-I hate when they don't really look like a family-anyone else??)

Prim is Cast!

The Hollywood Reporter reports that newcomer Willow Shields will play Prim in The Hunger Games movie. I'm really glad they're getting unknown actors as well and I think she looks like a great Prim! What do you think?

Hunger Games Thresh and Rue

The Hunger Games has cast Thresh and Rue! Dayo Okeniyi and Amandla Stenberg will play the tributes from District 11. What do you think of the casting? I think they look perfect!! You can follow The Hunger Games facebook page for more casting updates and news-and of course I'll post news here as well!

We Have Peeta and Gale!!

Josh Hutcherson and Liam Hemsworth have been cast as Peeta and Gale. They have the opposite hair colors than the characters in the book, but I think they both look good. (And I can overlook the hair color thing-not sure how Josh would look as a blonde...) So what do you think? Do you like Peeta and Gale? Thanks to Entertainment Weekly for the news!
