Tune In Tuesday is a monthly feature where I share some of my favorite music to use in library programs! This month I'm going with an oldie but a goodie- Greg and Steve ! I grew up on Greg and Steve. I dance around the living room with my mom to Popcorn . Listen and Move is one of the best preschool dance songs ever. Greg and Steve's version of The Freeze is the only freeze song I ever use because it's the best! I love how so many of their songs are action based. They ask the kids to get up and move, dance, and encourage various movements. I use Animal Action 1 & 2 pretty much every animal storytime I ever do. Same with Can You Leap Like a Frog . I love the skills kids learn from  Listen and Move -it requires the kids to remember what movement each musical piece stands for. It's the first Tuesday of the month, which means it's time for Tune In Tuesday. Tune In Tuesday where I share (and invite others to share) some of their favorite music to use in storytime and library programs-or just for fun! This month's featured artist: Koo Koo Kangaroo! Really, this just goes to show that I should listen to the other youth services staff at our other branches when they suggest music. Our library has hosted Koo Koo Kangaroo in concert twice, but I sadly missed the shows both times. Then Ingrid at Magpie Librarian  posted her toddler dance party playlist and it had an awesome song from Koo Koo Kangaroo and I just knew I had to include them in my upcoming dance party too! I used Dinosaur Stomp: I love that there's even a video you can share with dance moves if you wanted. I might do that in storytime sometime, but I didn't set up the video for the dance party. Tune In Tuesday where I share (and invite others to share) some of their favorite music to use in storytime and library programs-or just for fun! No More Monkeys by Asheba I discover so much music thanks to Spotify, Pandora, and Songza, especially now that I listen to kid playlists with my son. When I was home on maternity leave earlier this year I listened to lots of various playlists and I discovered what I think is the best version of No More Monkeys ever! You can find Asheba's Carribbean jam on either his No More Monkeys CD or on Animal Playground by Putumayo Kids. I was lucky enough to have Animal Playground in my library, so I immediately added it to my storytime repertoire.  I used this song last week in storytime to go along with our monkey themed storytime. The Pop Ups: Appetite for Construction  I recently discovered The Pop Ups-a fantastic kids music duo from New York and I've become the biggest fan. I've been telling everyone I know about them and trying to get everyone to listen to their music. This is fantastically fun music that kids and parents will love! The Pop Ups have three albums out, with Appetite for Construction  as the latest just released this year. I love all three and they are great for background music for programs at the library or play time at home. But I've also used several of their songs for programs. (Also, if anyone is super creative with making logos, would you make one for Tune In Tuesday?)   Bari Koral Family Rock Band  The Apple Tree & The Honey Bee  (2014) -I only recently discovered Bari Koral Family Rock Band and it's a new favorite of mine. When I looked the groups website, I noticed a blurb that said "Sheryl Crow for kids" and I couldn't agree more.  The songs are catchy and folksy and perfect for kids of all ages and their grown ups. The album has a great indie folk feel and is one I wouldn't hesitate to recommend to adults. I wouldn't be surprised if adults enjoyed listening to this on...

(Me and some of my fabulous librarian friends at the Little Brown dance party at ALA) I absolutely love to sing and dance! I take every chance I get to incorporate music into my storytimes and programming at the library. And I'm always on the lookout for new music. The more I've talked with other librarians who love to sing and dance, the more I've realized that we're always looking to share new ideas and favorite new songs. And so Tune In Tuesday was born!  Mark your calendars now. The first Tuesday of every month (which means next week, Tuesday, September 2!) is going to be the inaugural Tune In Tuesday post.
