Picture Book Saturday: Candlewick Rocks Edition!

I love reading picture books! And as much as I try to write about them on the blog, I haven't had much chance. But I had to share these books from Candlewick Press-they are publishing some of my favorite picture books!

Oh No, George! by Chris Haughton

Rating: 5/5 Stars

If A Ball For Daisy was the book for dog lovers in 2011, Oh No, George! is the book for dog lovers in 2012. George is left at home and he really wants to obey and be good, but there are so many tempting things around-a cake! a cat! trash! What's a dog to do?

If you have a dog, you'll be sure to laugh out loud as poor George tries to be good, but isn't always successful. Bold retro-style and simple text make this one perfect for storytimes. I can see preschoolers having a blast yelling out "Oh no, George!" This is one of my favorites of 2012!

Robot Zombie Frankenstein! by Annette Simon

Rating: 5/5 Stars

It's the ultimate game of one-up-only this time it's with robots! Two robots meet, but it's not enough to just be robots. I read this one and immediatly gave to everyone I saw to read. I can't read it without cracking up!

Robot Zombie Frankenstein! is another book that's perfect for storytime with it's bright colors and hilarious text. The endpages show the various shapes used to make the robots, which lends itself to a great craft with kids making their own robots. Pair this with Boy + Bot for a perfect robot storytime.

Not only are these books great, but Candlewick has two upcoming picture books that I'm very excited about! I got a sneak peek of them at Midwinter and I'm eagerly awaiting their release this Fall! It's going to  be a great picture book year thanks to Candlewick!

Otter and Odder: A Love Story by James Howe

Full Disclosure: Reviewed from finished copies checked out from the library.

  1. I love picture books too! Thought I was the only one, but apparently, there's a whole community of adults like us. Sometimes, I am tempted to kidnap a friend's baby for the afternoon just to have an excuse to read them with someone . . . ;-)

Eleanor and Park by Rainbow Rowell

When new girl Eleanor sits next to Park on the bus, they don't want anything to do with each other. But over the course of the school year, things change. It starts with comic books and becomes a friendship and a romance that the two will never forget. You never forget your first love. GreenBeanTeenQueen Says: Have you ever had a book sit on your shelf that you've heard so much hype about? And you think that books sounds like it would be right up your alley, but you're in a reading slump and you're afraid to give it a try unless it fails? I knew Eleanor and Park sounded like my perfect book, but I was in such an after committee slump that I even though I knew this book would help, I just didn't want to be disappointed. I should have known better because Eleanor and Park was perfect and everything that I had hoped it wou

Post Downton Abbey Reading List

Downton Abbey is over (with a shocking and frustrating ending!) and now I'm suffering Downton Abbey withdrawal. I've got a reading list full of books that I hope will satisfy my post-Downton Abbey cravings and I thought I'd share what's in my pile and get suggestions for other after Downton reads. Here's what I hope to be reading this year (a mix of YA and adult titles):                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                  A couple Julian Fellowes reads:                And a few re-reads:                    Edited to add: What's on your Post-Downton Abbey reading list?
