As you know, I work as a teen librarian. I work full time, but I split my time between the adult reference desk and the teen department. Next week the reference staff is having a big meeting and I get to talk about teen services (not very long though-I could do a whole meeting!)
I'd like to give staff a list of upcoming and popular teen books that they should know about. I can't be at work every hour we're open and I hate it when a teen comes in and asks for a book and no one knows what they're talking about.
So what books should staff have on their radar? (See, another great way bloggers and librarians can work together!)

I think the Harlequin Teen titles are going to be big. Intertwined and My Soul To Take.

Well, the obvious title is Catching Fire. I also think Going Bovine by Libba Bray will be big despite how different it is from her first books.

I would also talk about so many of the YA novels being made into movies like you do on your blog because those will certainly increase interest from a variety of readers I think (particularly Cirque Du Freak, The Lightning Thief, etc)
Can't wait for the Harlequin teen titles, Catching Fire, Blood Promise (Vampire Academy), Another Faust, The Van Alen Legacy (Blue Bloods), Hush Hush. I could go on and on. LOL
ReplyDeleteI second all of the above. Especially Intertwined! MSTT by Rachel Vincent was an okay read when it comes to YA standards. But Intertwined was awesome. My review is coming soon!

Hush Hush by Becca Fitzpatrick, Wish You Were Dead by Todd Strasser, Candor by Pam Banchorz should be on the list. I especially recommend Positively by Courtney Sheinmel and Jumping Off Swings by Jo Knowles :)

A book series that I am dying to read that not even my library has is Once a Princess and Twice a Prince by Sherwood Smith. They were published on a small press and I can't even get my library to buy them. All of her work is really good as well.

L.A. Candy, by Lauren Conrad. As far as I know, it's already really popular. My library doesn't carry it, so I had to do the whole "suggest a title thing" for it.
ReplyDeleteAlso, these are older so your library probably already has them, but if not, then you should get Tex; Taming the Star Runner; The Outsiders; That Was Then, This Is Now; and Rumble Fish, all by S.E. Hinton.
