Want It Wednesday

Magic Under Glass by Jaclyn Dolamore

Release Date: 12/22/09-Yay the date got moved up!!

About the Book: Nimira is a music-hall performer forced to dance for pennies to an audience of leering drunks. When wealthy sorcerer Hollin Parry hires her to do a special act - singing accompaniment to an exquisite piano-playing automaton, Nimira believes it is the start of a new life. In Parry's world, however, buried secrets stir. Unsettling below-stairs rumours abound about ghosts, a mad woman roaming the halls, and of Parry's involvement in a gang of ruthless sorcerers who torture fairies for sport. When Nimira discovers the spirit of a dashing young fairy gentleman is trapped inside the automaton's stiff limbs, waiting for someone to break the curse and set him free, the two fall in love. But it is a love set against a dreadful race against time to save the entire

fairy realm, which is in mortal peril.

GreenBeanTeenQueen Says: OK, I admit, I first wanted this book for the cover-isn't it beautiful? But after I saw the cover, I had to know what the book was about and lucky for me the synopsis sounds amazing! Plus, author Jaclyn Dolamore states on her website that she "spent her childhood reading as many books as her skinny nerd-body could lug from the library" and loves the Emily books by L.M. Montgomery, Little House and the Betsy-Tacy books (which I'm reading now). So of course, I'm convinced we'd be the best of friends if we ever met. I can only hope her favorite reads have influenced her writing-then I know I'll love it. Magic Under Glass is at the top of my wish list for 2010. Can't wait until February for this one!!

The cover on the left is the US cover and the right is the UK cover. I think they're both pretty awesome. Which one do you like better?

  1. I think the US cover is better for a YA novel... the UK one looks like it would be for younger readers. But I really like them both. I would totally buy it either way... in fact, I want it in both covers! :)

    Can't wait for this one!

  2. I already had this on my to-read list based on the summary, but knowing the author is an Montgomery and Lovelace fan makes me even more excited. The Betsy-Tacy books are some of my favorite books ever. I hope you enjoy them!

Regarding covers, both would make me pick it up, but expect different things out of it.

  3. I don't know, they would both catch my attention from the shelf. But I think I prefer the one on the right.

  4. Ooh, I'm still more a fan of the US cover, but the UK one is very pretty too!

  5. I can only hope there are echoes of my favorite authors in my style!

    P. S. the release date was moved up to 12/22/09.

    Thanks for the mention!!

  6. I would have to say I like the UK cover better. It gives more of that automatron/stuck in a music box feeling to it. I think it better represents the story the author is trying to tell. Also I just like the more illustrated look it suits my fancy!

  7. I LOVE the US cover. This one is def. going on my list of fall/winter books I need to read. thanks :)

I adored the Emily books - a bit disappointed with the tv series, but interesting to watch nonetheless. I hadn't heard about the Betsy-Tacy books until Meg Cabot talked about them a few weeks ago, but I took the first book out of the library. Looking forward to reading it.

  8. I adore the cover for the second one and the plot sounds fantastical! Great choice:)

  9. Oh sounds like a good book! I really like the UK cover just a tiny bit better but like you said, they are both fabulous covers.

  10. I can't wait to hear what you and YABookNerd think of Betsy-Tacy -- my all time favorite!

  11. I'm so excited this got moved up!

  12. I think both are great in their own way. But because I like cute stuff I'm voting for the UK cover.

  13. The US cover reminds me of the Gemma Doyle series.

I love hearing from other readers! Share your thoughts and chime in!
