About the Book:
(From Goodreads because I could not come up with a decent sounding summary!): Sixteen-year-old Lia Milthorpe and her twin sister Alice have just become orphans, and, as Lia discovers, they have also become enemies. The twins are part of an ancient prophecy that has turned generations of sisters against each other. To escape from a dark fate and to remain in the arms of her beloved boyfriend James, Lia must end the prophecy before her sister does. Only then will she understand the mysterious circumstances of her parents' deaths, the true meaning of the strange mark branded on her wrist, and the lengths to which her sister will go to defeat her.

GreenBeanTeenQueen Says: I always love the idea of Gothic novels and then they don't work out for me or I find them boring. Not so with Prophecy of the Sisters! This book pulled me in from the start and wouldn't let me go. I listened to this on audio in my car and I kept finding reasons to drive around so I could keep listening.

Michelle Zink's writing was amazing-she had the Gothic feel down perfectly and I loved the way she phrased things. It had the feel of being old fashioned without relying too heavily on old fashioned language which I really liked.

Lia and Alice are great characters and I liked the interplay between them-I just wish there had been more. This is more Lia's story and Alice wasn't in it as much as I thought she would be. But the moments she is-wow! Talk about evil twin! I don't think I've ever met a character quite as evil as Alice-she's so good at being bad and I loved it.

There were lots of surprises and I liked the twists Ms. Zink threw the reader. The only thing I didn't like was that this was very much a set up novel and setting the stage for more to come. Although there was still plenty of action in this one so I could almost forgive that. I'm very eager to read the next book in the series and I have to applaud Ms. Zink for writing a gothic novel that kept me entertained.

I do have to mention that I really liked the audio version. Eliza Dushku (Dollhouse, Buffy the Vampire Slayer) was the narrator. I typically like narrator's who do various voices, and Ms. Dushku gave more of a straight reading without voices. But her voice fit the book perfectly and I really liked her as the reader.

Amy-I hope you can get into it-it's a really good read. (And I skim reviews or skip them for books I haven't read yet too!)

Melissa-I hope we see more of Alice too-she's such an interesting character!

Michelle-Awww..thanks so much!:) Have you had a chance to listen to the audiobook? I'm curious what you thought of the narrator?

  8. I haven't really listened to the audiobook! I started to once, but it was too weird for me hearing my words read by someone else. If I were an actor, I'd probably be one that didn't watch my own movies. Lol!

But I LOVE Eliza's voice. I was really excited when they cast her because her voice is strong and not frou-frouey. I was happy they didn't cast someone with a "be still, my heart" Victorian voice!

Post Downton Abbey Reading List

Downton Abbey is over (with a shocking and frustrating ending!) and now I'm suffering Downton Abbey withdrawal. I've got a reading list full of books that I hope will satisfy my post-Downton Abbey cravings and I thought I'd share what's in my pile and get suggestions for other after Downton reads. Here's what I hope to be reading this year (a mix of YA and adult titles):                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                  A couple Julian Fellowes reads:                And a few re-reads:                    Edited to add: What's on your Post-Downton Abbey reading list?
