Funny Librarian Moment

I started listening to the audiobook of Zen and the Art of Faking It by Jordan Sonnenblick today, which is on the 2009-2010 Truman Award List. I just had to share this fun moment in the book:

From page 34-35

"I went over to the information desk, which was abandoned, and rang this little bell that said RING FOR ASSISTANCE. Apparently in the wacky world of libraries, "assistance" could mean "hot mama." An incredibly beautiful, young-looking lady popped out of a back little room and glided toward me. I felt myself blushing as I cleared my throat.

"Are you...um...a librarian?" Oops, I hadn't meant to sound so shocked.

"No, I'm a lawn gnome. Yes, I'm a librarian. Well, a librarian in training. My name is Amanda."

"Umm, well, I was wondering if you could help me find some books."

"Sure," she said. "Here! I give you...some books!" She gestured in a wide circle at the stacks all around us, then kind of giggled.

This just made me laugh because there are so many days when I want to answer back with a fun snarky remark when people ask if I'm a librarian or do you work here or do you have any books? Amanda, you are an inspiration! :)

  2. Haha, that is hilarious! I don't think I'd say that I was a lawn gnome when asked such a question :)

  3. Haha! I like that little passage, I'm going to have to get this book sometime.

I just love customers some days. I work in a deli and when people stop me and say, Excuse me, do you work here? I just want to point out that don't normally go around wearing a black apron and a hat that advertises meat.

  5. Storyheart-haha, thanks! Sometimes people need a little snark :)

Epic Rat-I don't know what people would do if I told them I was a lawn gnome.

Amber-I know, I laugh everytime someone asks. And why would they ask if you work in the deli? So silly!

Insert Book Title & Jessica-Thanks-I'm glad you liked it.

13 District Mockingjay Tour: District 4

Hello and welcome to District Four. I'm sorry that Finnick isn't here to be your host. I know as a member of District Four I should be cheering for my own tribute, but after watching the last two Hunger Games play out I have fallen in love with Peeta Mellark! Why do I love Peeta? He's smart, he's funny, and he's charming. He stands up for what he believes, he's loyal and he's not afraid to do what's right. He's sensitive and caring but can also be strong and kick butt. He fights for Katniss and with Katniss. Peeta is a great diplomat and he knows how to bring people together. He can also be sneaky to get what he wants. Plus, did I mention he can bake? And he's hot!! But it's not just me! We have an underground club of sorts here in District Four-Seafaring Librarians for Peeta! Here's what some of our members had to say about their love for Peeta: - Team Peeta!! I love their relationship because they balance each other perfectly. Where ...
